As well, the Calgary Humane Society has a number of other species of animals available for adoption, including birds, small rodents and iguanas.

Save time when you come to adopt an animal by being prepared to:

  • Provide proof of address using identification such as a driver's licence.
  • Fill out a lifestyle survey to assess suitability and compatibility with the chosen animal.
  • Provide proof from the landlord that pets are permitted in the residence if you are renting (e.g. lease, written permission on letter head signed by the landlord where applicable). Potential adopters who own their own accommodations may be required to provide proof of home ownership.
  • Bring along members of the household and pets (where suitable) to meet the prospective new pet.

We are able to put animals on hold for short periods of time so adopters can meet our adoption requirements. Holds cannot be placed over the telephone as the lifestyle survey must be completed and reviewed in person.

Adopters must be 18 years of age or older to sign the Adoption Contract. Copies of our Adoption Policy and Criteria are available by clicking on Adoption Policies on the submenu to the left. Because little is known about these animals when they come to the Shelter, the Society may not be able to guarantee their health or behaviour.

Animal Services also has cats and dogs available for adoption.
