Bunny Basics

This fun and interactive 3.5 hour class explores how to successfully raise and properly care for domestic indoor pet rabbits. Designed for current rabbit owners or those considering adopting a bunny. Includes open discussion, handouts and hands on demonstrations with CHS bunnies!!

The next Bunny Basics session is: Sunday, October 19, from 1:00pm - 4:30pm

Fee: $15 per session or $10 for Society members and for bunnies adopted from Calgary Humane Society

Bunny Fundamentals

Bunny Fundamentals is a fun and interactive 1.5 hour private session with you, your rabbit and a knowledgeable Calgary Humane Society "Bunny Hugger."

Bring in your rabbit and discuss any behaviour, issues or questions you have specific to living with your pet rabbit. Review housing, nutrition, litter training, exercise and much more!

Fee: $15 per session
$10 for Society members

Fascinating Felines

Barbara Walmer CPDT, Calgary Humane Society's Behaviour Program Coordinator discusses how cats communicate and why they interact the way they do. Videos and pictures will help educate about the subtle signs our feline friends give to tell us their intentions. You will learn all about what makes tabby tick!

When:  Saturday, November 15, 2008, 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Location:  Calgary Humane Society, 4455 110 Avenue SE

Cost:  $25 per person. $20 for Calgary Humane Society members and volunteers.

Body Talk & Body Interaction

In Body Talk, Barbara Walmer CPDT, the Calgary Humane Society's Behaviour Program Coordinator, will discuss how dogs use their body to communicate. There will be videos and pictures to help educate about the subtle signs our best friends give us. In Body Interaction you will learn how to effectively use your body to communicate with our canine companions and you will gain more insight into how dogs interact with each other.

Tellington TTouch

The Calgary Humane Society uses innovative, humane approaches to working with animals called Tellington TTouch. We host three six-day TTouch training sessions that are held at our facility. To learn more about TTouch, please visit TTouch's Canadian website,  http://www.tteam-ttouch.ca/index.htm.

TTouch was developed by internationally recognized animal expert, Linda Tellington-Jones. The program is based on cooperation and respect and it can greatly improve the the health and performance of our animals. TTouch establishes a deeper rapport between humans and animals through increased understanding and effective communication. 

Calgary Humane Society TTouch workshops are presented by Barbara Walmer CPDT. Barbara possesses over 14 years of professional experience working with animals. Throughout her career, Barbara has placed multiple obedience, agility and working titles on three golden retrievers. Barbara joined the Calgary Humane Society as Behaviour Program Coordinator in 2002. Since then, her experience and knowledge has extended to a wide variety of companion animals. Barbara is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer and she became a Tellington TTouch practitioner in 2006. TTouch increases Barbara's expertise in animal perception and the effects of bio feedback on improving animal behaviour.

Workings of Tellington TTouch

The Workings of Tellington TTouch explains the principles behind TTouch. The workshop will improve your relationship with animals, provide you with new tools to help increase the bond between you and your pet and decrease all animals' stress levels. Instructor Barbara Walmer demonstrates the TTouches soothing effects and additional techniques and equipment will be applied. Hands-on experience is offered using Calgary Humane Society animals.

Dogs that Pull

Dogs that Pull teaches owners how to walk their dogs without on leash pulling. This workshop has a total of six dog spots (if you bring your own dog) available. Tellington TTouch techniques and equipment will be used and demonstrated. Spectators will have the opportunity to work with Calgary Humane Society dogs to review the techniques learned. If you have a dog that pulls on leash, this is the clinic for you!

Next workshop: Sunday, October 5, 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Location:  Calgary Humane Society, 4455 110 Avenue SE

Cost: $70 per dog spot if you bring your own dog (only six spots available). $50 for those not bringing a dog for general public. $30 for Calgary Humane Society members and volunteers not bringing their own dog.
